Twelve renowned researchers and experts from various international institutions of excellence will participate in the conference, which aims to foster multidisciplinary discussions around key challenges in plant science and its contribution to fighting climate change.
Next April 7th-9th 2025, the second Edition of PlantACT! 2025 Conference will be held by Centro de Biotecnología y Genómica de Plantas, CBGP (UPM/INIA/CSIC) in Madrid, Spain. The PlantACT! Conference is built on the initiative’s mission by providing a platform for international experts to discuss their research and collaborate on pressing climate change-related issues. The goal is to break down barriers, enabling participants to explore cross-disciplinary approaches that enhance both scientific understanding and practical applications for mitigating climate impacts.
The conference organized within the frame of Severo Ochoa Excellence Program of CBGP is divided into 3 plenary sessions:
- Session 1: Powering Agricultural Production from below - Exploring the role of soil and microbiomes in agricultural productivity and sustainability. This session will address root growth, soil health, and microbial interactions essential for resilient crop production.
- Session 2: Facing Environment and Forests Challenges and Their Economic Impact - A deep dive into the environmental and economic implications of climate change on forests, biodiversity, and land use, including strategies for mitigation and adaptation.
- Session 3: From Observation of Nature and Biodiversity to Lab and Back - Bridging field observations and laboratory research to advance our understanding of biodiversity and ecosystem functionality, translating findings into practical solutions for conservation and agriculture. Use of cutting-edge innovations and technologies (genome editing, biotechnology, and precision farming) to meet agricultural demands, and overcome sustainability challenges.

About the CBGP
The mission of the CBGP (UPM-INIA/CSIC) is to carry out fundamental and strategic research within the field of plant biology and the microorganisms that interact with them. The research carried out by the different groups of the Center is aimed at understanding, from a multidisciplinary point of view, essential processes such as plant development, their interaction with the environment and the molecular mechanisms that regulate plant nutrition. Likewise, the CBGP (UPM-INIA/CSIC) is developing new computational biology and genomics tools to achieve these objectives and to understand the complexity of biological diversity. The acquisition of basic biological knowledge is essential to combat the challenges facing agricultural and forestry production and should contribute to the development of new biotechnological solutions. The CBGP (UPM-INIA/CSIC) also has a relevant training role, being a reference center for the training of young scientists and Master and Degree students in the areas of Plant Biotechnology and Genomics. The CBGP (UPM-INIA/CSIC) is a Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence, having obtained this seal of excellence from the Ministry of Science and Innovation twice (2017-2021 and 2022-2025).
