The bioinformatic analysis of high-throughput sequencing data is essential for most genomic projects. Although many of the required methods and protocols are considered standard, their use depends on the computational capacity available to each research group, as well as on the availability of qualified personnel capable of managing high‑performance computing infrastructures.

In this context, the Bioinformatics Support Unit (BSU) of the Centre for Plant Biotechnology and Genomics (CBGP UPM‑INIA), as part of the Computational/Systems Biology Programme (CsBGP) within the CBGP’s Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence strategic plan, was established to meet the high demand for processing and analysing omics data, mainly from next‑generation sequencing (NGS) platforms.
