The CBGP takes part in El Juicio on La 2 in a programme dedicated to food in Spain

Are Spaniards eating well? This is the question explored in the fifth episode of El Juicio, the programme broadcast on La 2 and presented by journalist José Luis Sastre.

The researcher from our Centre and Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at UPM, Antonio Molina, takes part in the programme explaining the work carried out at the Centro de Biotecnología y Genómica de Plantas to address some of the major challenges facing the agriculture and food systems of the future.

During his intervention, Antonio addresses one of today’s major challenges: producing more food while using fewer resources. In this regard, he explains that researchers at the CBGP are working to develop crops that use water and fertilisers more efficiently, maintaining productivity while reducing the environmental impact of agriculture.

Another of the topics discussed in the programme is the impact of climate change on agricultural production. Antonio points out that rising temperatures, droughts and extreme weather events will require crops to adapt to new environmental conditions. To this end, the CBGP is investigating more resilient plant varieties and technologies capable of anticipating future climate scenarios.

The interview also showcases some of the centre’s facilities, such as the experimental greenhouses where future climate conditions are simulated, as well as LED-based systems, technologies that could play an important role in the agriculture of the coming decades.
