On July 2nd, the "Conference on Food Security and Climate Change" was held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumption, and the 2030 Agenda in Madrid. During the meeting, topics related to climate change, health, and sustainability were discussed.

Experts from various fields presented their work and research on topics such as the transition toward more sustainable food systems, climate change mitigation measures in food production, and climate change and health. In addition, the four reports prepared by the AESAN Scientific Committee, to which CBGP researcher Araceli Díaz Perales belongs, were presented throughout the session.

Relationship between climate change, food sufficiency and the nutritional deficiencies of the population

Araceli Díaz Perales, lead researcher of the PLANT ALLERGENS group, presented a report highlighting the connection between climate change, food security, and global nutritional health. While the visible impacts of human-driven climate change are often meteorological, her presentation emphasized that the consequences go far beyond weather patterns. Díaz Perales underscored how climate change threatens the availability of sufficiently nutritious food worldwide. She also stressed two urgent priorities: reducing greenhouse gas emissions and ensuring equitable distribution of food across all regions.
