The entire CBGP community would like to congratulate José Manuel Palacios who has been elected Director of the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería Agronómica, Alimentaria y de Biosistemas (ETSIAAB).
On the 8th of June in the official ceremony chaired by the UPM rector Guillermo Cisneros, José Manuel Palacios took office as the new Director of the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería Agronómica, Alimentaria y de Biosistemas (ETSIAAB) for 4 years term.
In his inauguration speech he outlined what will be the course of action of the new team he leads: "human factor, training offer, research and management of media and infrastructures".
José Manuel Palacios, a microbiology Professor and CBGP researcher, leads the CBGP’s Associations of Symbiotic bacteria with plants research group dedicated mainly to studying the mechanisms for the improvement of nitrogen fixation by endosymbiotic bacteria of legumes. He obtained a PhD degree in 1988 at UPM and afterwards made international stays at the University of California and University of Missouri in the USA. During years he has taught at the ETSIAAB school subjects related to General Microbiology and Agricultural Microbiology, both for undergraduate and master students. He is an author of more than 60 research papers in international journals. Until recently he also held the Director position of the Biotechnology and Plant Biology Department of UPM. He is one of the UPM faculty founders of the CBGP and initiated his research activities at CBGP facilities on autumn 2008.
