The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, has chaired the Fertiberia Awards ceremony for doctoral theses on the agriculture field that has distinguished Alejandro Jiménez Gómez for his research on crop biofertilization and has awarded a second prize (accésit) to Dr. Mónica Navarro Rodríguez, for her thesis "Molybdenum Metabolism in Azotobacter vinelandii and its Biotechnological Applications", defended at the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) and directed by Dr. Luis Manuel Rubio Herrero at the CBGP (UPM-INIA / CSIC).
This Award, granted by Fertiberia Group, in collaboration with the Official College of Agricultural Engineers of the Center and the Canary Islands (COIACC), has the objective of promoting and recognizing the research in the agronomic field and agricultural activity. This year it has reached its 23rd edition and has established itself as a reference appointment for researchers in their task of providing high-level studies to contribute to a more sustainable agriculture.
In his intervention, the Minister has highlighted the crucial role that research and applied academic knowledge play in progress towards a more sustainable agricultural activity and has recognized the work of the two awarded theses as of maximum interest for agriculture.
