CBGP (UPM-INIA) offers 10 doctoral projects funded by La Caixa INPhINIT Incoming Programme

la Caixa” Banking Foundation, which firmly believes that scientific progress, research, mobility and professional qualification are key to the development of society is launching a doctoral fellowship program".

INPhINIT Incoming Fellowships are dedicated and offered to early-stage researchers of any nationality to pursue their PhD studies in research centres accredited with the Spanish Seal of Excellence Severo Ochoa, María de Maeztu or Health Institute Carlos III and Portuguese units participating in the program.

The Incoming fellowships are offered to 35 researchers for a maximum duration of 3 years. Candidates cannot have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Spain for more than twelve months in the three years immediately prior to the deadline for application. Besides financial support the program includes a training programme on transversal skills aiming in widening the chances for personal development, not only in the academia, but also in industry.

The CBGP (UPM-INIA), accredited Centre of Excellence Severo Ochoa offers 10 possible doctoral projects:

  1. Project title: Mutation bias as a force directing evolution. PI: Alejandro Couce
  2. Project title: Exploring the molecular battle between plants and fungal pathogens. PI: Andrea Sánchez Vallet
  3. Project title: PhD studentship in Biocomputing – design of living computing devices. PI: Angel Goñi Moreno
  4. Project title: How bacteria exploit light signals to optimize virulence and plant infection. PI: Emilia A. López Solanilla
  5. Project title: Interplay of evolutionary and ecological processes in the microbiome. PI: Jaime Iranzo Sanz
  6. Project title: Exploring the potential of epigenetics to promote the adaptation to warmer temperature of yield-related traits in crops. PI: José Antonio Jarillo Quiroga
  7. Project title: Programming eukaryotic microbiomes with synthetic cell communication systems. PI: Krzysztof Wabnik
  8. Project title: Deep is Beautiful: Applications of Deep Learning to the Prediction of Complex Traits. PI: Miguel Perez-Enciso
  9. Project title: Epigenetic modifiers in the response of plants to environment. PI: Pedro Crevillén
  10. Project title: Sustainability in viticulture: from genetics to agroecological approach (SUSVIT). PI: Rosa A Arroyo García

The deadline for the application is 4 February 2020 at 2:00 p.m. (Central European Time – CET). Candidates must apply using the online application platform available in the “Fellowships” section on the ”la Caixa” Foundation website by selecting “CBGP-UPM-INIA - Centro de Biología y Genómica de Plantas” in the research centre field.

About the Centro de Biotecnología y Genómica de Plantas (CBGP, UPM-INIA):

The Centro de Biotecnología y Genómica de Plantas (CBGP) is a joint research centre of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) and the Instituto Nacional de Investigación y Tecnología Agraria y Alimentaria (INIA) with accreditation of Severo Ochoa. Mission of the CBGP (UPM-INIA) is to carry out fundamental and strategic research in plant science and in microorganisms interacting with plants. The research is focused in understanding important biological process such as plant development, the interaction of plants with the environment and the mechanisms of plant nutrition. In addition, the CBGP (UPM-INIA) is interested in developing and using computational biology tools to achieve its goals. This year the CBGP (UPM-INIA) celebrates its 10 anniversary.
