The proteomics facility of the CBGP was established in 2009. At the moment it contains equipment for protein purification, two-dimensional gel electrophoresis, a spot picker, an automated protease digestion system, and a Kratos AXIMA-CFR MALDI-TOF reflectron mass spectrometer. Since mid of 2009 the facility offers proteomics service mainly to members of the CBGP that is charged at cost price. Service options range from total peptide profiling of crude biological samples, mass determination of intact proteins to one- and two-dimensional gel electrophoresis. Subsequently spot picking and trypsin digestion of selected proteins can be performed. Resulting peptides are then used for protein identification by peptide mass and peptide fragment fingerprinting and fully evaluated data are returned.
