Susanna Manrubia (CNB-CSIC) has been nominated External Advisor of the Computational/Systems Biology and Genomics Program (CsBGP) of the CBGP

Susanna Manrubia is an internationally recognized expert in developing theoretical and computational models for the evolution of molecular populations, and in the quantitative analysis of adaptive and evolutionary mechanisms. She will provide scientific advice on CsBGP program launched with Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence Grant of the CBGP (UPM-INIA)

Susanna Manrubia holds a degree in Physics (Universitat de Barcelona) and a PhD in Sciences (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, 1996). After several years at different Max Planck Society research centers (Berlin and Golm, in Germany) she spent over a decade at the Center for Astrobiology (INTA-CSIC, Madrid). Currently, she is Associate Professor at the National Centre for Biotechnology (CSIC), where she leads the Evolutionary Systems Group. She has been always interested in transdisciplinary problems, especially those at the interface physics-biology-society, to which she has applied a Complex Systems viewpont. At present, her reseach focuses in the development of theoretical and computational models for the evolution of molecular populations, chiefly viruses and RNA sequences, and in the quantitative analysis of adaptive and evolutionary mechanisms. She maintains an active interest in the emergence of cultural patterns and collective social behavior. She has led multiple research projects and published over a hundred peer-reviewed papers. She has written three books, among which "Genes y genealogías. Sobre nuestra herencia cultural y biológica" (Genes and genealogies. On our cultural and biological inheritance) which was awarded a European popular science prize, and has wide experience in the communication of science. With the current pandemics as motivation, she has investigated the limits to predictability based on epidemiological models and empirical data. Manrubia is Vicedirector of the National Centre for Biotechnology and serves in the Scientific Advisory Board of various national and international research centres.
